                                                                  Groves says the investigation had several tragic sides;
                                                                  the elderly man was dead and the teen was arrest-
                                                                  ed for murder. “He had all of his life in front of him,”
                                                                  Groves said. Only three days later the young man who
                                                                  was arrested hanged himself in the jail. “It’s a 17-year-
                                                                  old life, wasted. It’s a man in his late 80s, whose life
                                                                  was wasted. You have so much waste, for I don’t know
                                                                  what reason.”
                                                                    Although some crimes are more difficult than oth-
                                                                  ers, Groves says the hard work is worth it. “When you
                                                                  do something for somebody,” Groves said, “I’m ac-

                                                                  to help another person, he knows he’s on the right path.

                                                                  hold, if a person is wanting to go into law enforcement,
                                                                  is a want to help society. “A lot of people don’t realize it,

                                                                  Groves continued, “things bother us just like they bother
                                                                  anybody.”
                                                                    One of the best parts of the job for Groves is when he
                                                                  has the opportunity to help those in need, especially a
                                                                  child. “Whether it be an abused child, or when you feel
                                                                  like you made a difference in their life talking to them
                                                                  or visiting with them.”
                                                                    After working to serve and protect the citizen of
                                                                  Kennett over the course of four decades, Groves says
                                                                  retirement is drawing near. Although he has yet to set
