Groves says the investigation had several tragic sides;
the elderly man was dead and the teen was arrest-
ed for murder. “He had all of his life in front of him,”
Groves said. Only three days later the young man who
was arrested hanged himself in the jail. “It’s a 17-year-
old life, wasted. It’s a man in his late 80s, whose life
was wasted. You have so much waste, for I don’t know
what reason.”
Although some crimes are more difficult than oth-
ers, Groves says the hard work is worth it. “When you
do something for somebody,” Groves said, “I’m ac-

that’s what all of us want, is to make a positive differ-

to help another person, he knows he’s on the right path.
888-5366 Groves says one of the most important qualities to
hold, if a person is wanting to go into law enforcement,
is a want to help society. “A lot of people don’t realize it,
Thank You but cops have feelings just like anybody else. Something
First Responders like child abuse affects us just like any other citizen.”
Groves continued, “things bother us just like they bother
anybody.”
One of the best parts of the job for Groves is when he
has the opportunity to help those in need, especially a
child. “Whether it be an abused child, or when you feel
like you made a difference in their life talking to them
or visiting with them.”
After working to serve and protect the citizen of
Kennett over the course of four decades, Groves says
retirement is drawing near. Although he has yet to set
