Using the same wedding vows as her parents, Elizabeth Strickland wed
Chris Blackmon on a warm September day. The simple and classic
ceremony was held at the groom’s family church, First Baptist Church in
Whiteville.
A southern style dinner including a carving station greeted guests at the
reception. Homemade blueberry jam made from fresh blueberries from
Chris’ family farm were sweet treats given to guests at the end of the
evening.

A love story six years in the making, Ashley Grice and Wesley Var-
nador wed on October 21, 2017. Western Prong Baptist Church was
beautifully decorated by the bride’s mother for the 5 p.m. ceremony.
With their rehearsal dinner at The Chef and The Frog and reception at
Vineland Station, the weekend was a tour of downtown Whiteville. The
couple enjoyed a cruise to the Bahamas for their honeymoon. They have
settled in Riegelwood located midway between their jobs in Wilmington
and Whiteville.

“Good job, Chad!” shouted the 4-year-old niece of the bride. The church
filled with laughter after the traditional ceremony of Sarah Greer and
Chad Hester that included details in memory of the bride’s parents and
the groom’s father. On the windy November day, the bride struggled
to keep her veil in place especially during pictures. The wedding cake
reflected the rustic setting and feeling of the reception. The cake topper
was designed by the groom and the cake was painted to depict a water-
color mountain scene.
