Strand’s Founder Created a Generational Business

In 1971, Hoover Dowless founded the Strand Termite & Pest Control Com-
pany. Hard work and care for his customers set the ground rules for its suc-
cess. The company was built with the belief that quality work, personal
service and professionalism were the formula for continued growth. Those
beliefs paid off as today Hoover’s sons, Buster Dowless and Mitchell Dow-
less continue to run the company abiding by those same stringent ten-
nent
The brothers have built a locally owned service company that continues to
thrive by exceeding customer expectations. And by following in their fa-
ther’s footsteps their business has become a leader in the local market-
place.
“ I can remember not that long ago that after Labor Day one could drive
from Little River to Georgetown on Highway 17 and pass maybe 10 vehi-
cles. Most businesses were seasonal back in the day and money was very
tight. As the growth came to North Myrtle Beach we also grew. We now
have 2 branches and 60 plus employees.” said Buster Dowless.
Now skip ahead more than four decades. With the help of their highly
trained staff and valued customers, the Dowless brothers have established
an impressive reputation in both North and South Carolina, by caring
