Trooper Chadwick Thomas LeCroy was shot and killed in Atlanta after a vehicle pursuit
on December 27, 2010. He had attempted to stop a vehicle and the driver fled until
it crashed. As Trooper LeCroy approached the vehicle, the driver fired three shots,
striking the trooper once in the neck. The gunman then fled the scene in the patrol car
and was arrested a short distance away. He was convicted of first degree murder and
                                        sentenced to life without parole.
Trooper LeCroy was posthumously promoted to the rank of Corporal.

      “Lest We Forget” series.
“I’ve had commissions before, but not any as im-
portant as this one for Col. McDonough,” McHugh
said, adding that while he has painted portraits for
family and friends, such as the one he painted of the
late former Mayor ay unley, he initially started out
painting nature scenes - landscapes and seascapes.
“Then when my dad passed I did one of him for my
sister and then another for my wife’s grandfather, and
it just went from there. I never feel that they look good
enough, but I have done lots more over the years.”
McHugh may not think they look good enough, but
those who have seen some of his portraits definitely
don’t share his opinion, especially when it comes to
the first 11 already completed for the “Lest We Forget”
series. But McHugh prefers to reserve his admiration
for the men whose portraits he has been commissioned
     to paint.
“John 1 :1 says, “Greater love has no one than
this to lay down one’s life for one’s friends,” McHugh
quoted, adding, “If John wrote this today, he’d have
to consider that law enforcement officers are not only
willing to do this for their friends, but also to lay down
their life for those who they don’t even know.” •WLM
