n honor of Max’s graduation from Ball High this
month, I have the privilege to write his column.
For many years we’d commute from Houston to
Galveston EVERY weekend to go fishing. Often,
I we’d fish all night on 61st Street or Jimmy’s Pier
on the Seawall and travel home again on Sunday night.
In 2012, I changed careers and we moved to the island,
so Max could pursue his passion for fishing! Our first
Christmas after relocating here, I bought his first kayak.
The next Christmas a super nice kayak. We’d haul that
kayak all over the island so he could chase the next ‘big’
catch. Max began to enter tournaments, often winning,
but mostly just catching and releasing. He just loved being
on the water, fishing the bays, beachfront, jetties and even
offshore. Soon after, he received sponsorships from a
rod builder and lure companies. It has been awesome to
watch him network with companies in the fishing industry.
They are the most generous and kind people in the world.
For several years Max received scholarships to attend Pine
Cove Christian Camp, Sea Camp TA&M Galveston and
Coastal Brigades at Sea Scout Basin. These camps and
their leadership allowed him the incredible opportunity
to grow and mature with a sense of responsibility to ‘give
         back.’
