for locally grown food and there’s a
growing community of people who are
willing to provide it.
Most of the small local growers
sell their foods at the Bedford County
Farmers’ Market which opens every year
around June 1.
“There’s a niche market out there of
people looking for certain products, grass
fed beef or organic heirloom tomatoes
and that sort of thing,” Teague says.
“These people are looking for a source
and typically it is a small producer.
They’re doing that for a premium and
those consumers are willing to pay.”
The spirits live on
Much has changed in how farming is
done in the more than six decades since
Teague’s granddaddy ran his farm in the
mountains of eastern Tennessee.
