Girls on the Run - Bayou Country
What we do:
At Girls on the Run, we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes
them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula
which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-
week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds
and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and ?tness. Our girls learn the 6 C's of Girls on
the Run - Con?dence, Care, Character, Connections, Competence, and Contribution. The pro-
gram culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project
and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
History of our Bayou Region council:
Girls on the Run Houma-Terrebonne was established in 2011 to serve the girls of Terrebonne
Parish. With 25 brave girls, their coaches, and our founders embarking on a new program that
most had not heard of, GOTR Houma-Terrebonne took o?! In 2013, our council expanded into
Lafourche Parish, and the council changed the name to re?ect our new area, the Bayou Region.
In our ?rst 5 years, Girls on the Run Bayou Region has served over 2,000 girls in our community
and plan to serve many more in the years to come!
