3lbs but nothing worth a comment. The next morning, we
headed back down to Gorda to find new areas. That morn-
ing a front blew in with 30mph winds and extreme gusts.
We caught a few fish up to 4lbs that morning but nothing
special. We did some boat riding and decided to hop out at
a spot we hadn’t fished in a while. Marc and I went deep
while Wyatt and Marc’s buddy stayed shallow. We start
catching fish deep but nothing big. About 45 minutes into
it, Wyatt hooked up with a big fish and ended up going 29”
inches and a little over 8 ½ lbs. We hopped from spot to
spot until Wyatt hooked up with another big trout at 28”
                                                                  and a little over 7lbs.

Lots of foggy days this month and many boats on the
ebruary was another great month! Once again, I water, but still a solid month of fishing.
fished the Hook Spit Junior Angler’s Association
FTournament with my partner Wyatt Foster. We man- Shout-out to my sponsors – Hunter Welch – Fishstix Rods,
aged a solid 1st place finish with a 3 trout stringer weighing Jason Paul – Stinky Pants Fishing, Michael Bosse – Down
in at 14.69 lbs. South Lures and Billy Ray Wagner – SaltWater Soul.

The next day we decided to ‘fun fish’ for a couple of hours
before we left. The fog was extremely bad, and we had to
take it slow across the bay, but we managed to get to the
spot and out of the boat safely. Twenty minutes into the
wade, Wyatt misses a good bite and I miss one as well. We
knew there were fish, we just had to make them mad and
eat. Wyatt catches the first fish a little over 4lbs and catch-
es another good one shortly after. Wyatt’s dad Marc, on
my left, starts catching fish and we start really getting into
them. He hooked a big one and broke it off. The next cast
he stuck one a little over 7lbs. We closed in on the fish
and for the next 45 minutes we stroked them every other
cast. They were not small. Every single trout we caught
was 4 ½lbs or better. After the trout turned off, the redfish
showed up and the same exact result occurred. Every other
cast until we got tired of them. We ended the day with 20
plus trout over 4lbs, several over 7lbs. There were so many
we lost count. The biggest was 11lbs. Hands down, the
most aggressive corky bite I’ve ever experienced.
                                                                              Find Max Online @
A couple of weeks later we headed to Matagorda to
pre-fishing for the next tournament. The first day we www.facebook.com/max.conner.395
started at daylight and didn’t catch anything until 2PM. I
went shallow and caught one a little over 7 ½ lbs. On that Instagram: maxconnerfishing
