Queen’s Bar-B-Que
alveston is a city of neighborhoods. In the days
before supermarkets, each neighborhood was served
Gby a small locally owned grocery store. Most of these
independent stores were housed in wood frame commercial
buildings located on corners. Many of these still exist. Some
are vacant and some have been converted into housing, others
are now restaurants. One of these is the Queen’s Bar-B-Que.
Located in the home of the former Queen’s Market from
which it gets its name, this island staple has been serving up
mouth-watering Bar-B-Que since 1976.
Step inside and you will know you are in and old time Texas
Bar-B-Que joint. The walls are covered with artifacts and the
air is thick with years of Pecan smoke. Like many similar plac-
es, you stand in line and place your order. They call you to a
pickup window when it is ready. A side bar contains the pickles
and onions and other condiments. Grab your silverware, drink
and a roll of paper towels and find a seat. Prepare to feast on
some of the best Bar-B-Que around.
Queen’s Bar-B-Que
The usual brisket, sausage links, ribs and chicken are all tasty
and well done. Other items are their unique “cliffhanger” 3428 Avenue S
sandwiches. Their turkey cliffhanger is an island legend. A Galveston Texas 77550
huge portion of smoked sliced turkey with cheese on a jala-
peno cheddar bun is a full meal. Couple it with some of their 409-762-3151
