The Black Pearl Oyster Bar
Of course, it wouldn’t be Cajun if they did not offer a deep
rich gumbo, red beans and rice and etouffee’s. Gumbo is a
very subjective dish. Everyone makes it differently. Some like
a deep brown roux and others prefer a lighter blonde version.
Sometimes it is best to ask for a sample before diving in.
On the lighter side, a large selection of salads are offered and
they may be topped with your choice of protein.
Daily lunch specials come with a salad and are a bargain
at just under ten dollars. My Monday favorite is their large
blackened pork chop served over a huge mound of rich and
creamy fettuccine alfredo.
Physically, the corner location allows large windows making
the restaurant bright and airy. The Cajun theme is obvious
and there is a long bar sharing the space with the tables.
They have a full beverage service and do a brisk happy hour.
It is a lively setting and can become noisy with a crowd.
Parking is always an issue in downtown Galveston although
you can usually find street parking nearby.
