The Sunflower Bakery and Café
There are several specials offered each day as well as their fixed
menu. Soups are very popular with the aforementioned tomato
basil available always and supplemented by a daily rotating soup
special. Most everything is “scratch” made on site and prefer-
ence is given to local produce and seafood. Their kitchen is par-
ticularly skilled in preparing fresh gulf seafood. There are usual-
ly one or two fresh offerings of locally caught Red Snapper,
Shrimp or Grouper. Soft-shell crab is a delight when available.
Their breakfast plates are well prepared and served in large por-
tions. Any breakfast pairing with seafood is not to be missed
and their eggs benedict is one of the best.
Always remember this is also a bakery. Peruse the bakery coun-
ter at the rear of the restaurant for some of the most delicious
baked goods you have ever tasted. If you can get past the giant
cinnamon rolls you are a stronger person than I.
Wildly popular for breakfast, lunch and brunch, lines form dur-
ing peak season and on weekends. Parking can be a problem
during busy times. There are several street spots in front of the
restaurant and a private parking lot. However automobiles often
overflow into the surrounding neighborhoods. Parking is strictly
controlled in Galveston’s east end historic district so watch the
signs carefully.
