when bands played at beach hotels
and at Garten Verein, the Galves-
W ton Beach Band started playing
free concerts in the 1920’s becoming an important
Island summer attraction, often boasting audienc-
es of 2,000 and were frequently featured on the
newspaper front page. By the 1960s, the Band had
declined but was revitalized, thanks to its core of
loyal musicians and then new leader, Frank Inca-
prera.
Frank Incaprera is the driving force of the Gal-
veston Beach Band. From an endless quest for
civic funding, to music selection, conducting, and
playing solos, Frank is front and center stage. A
man of monumental commitment, under his 48-
year leadership, the summer concerts continue to
bring pleasure to so many.
This year marks the 91st Anniversary of the
Summer Pop Band Concerts. Every concert is
